Which fire extinguisher is specifically used for Class B fires?

Class B fires involve flammable liquids such as gasoline, oil, and paint. The best way to extinguish these types of fires is by displacing the oxygen around them or by removing the heat or fuel source. CO2 (carbon dioxide) and foam extinguishers are specifically designed for this purpose.

CO2 extinguishers work by releasing a cloud of carbon dioxide that smothers the fire, displacing oxygen and cooling the surrounding area. They are particularly effective in enclosed spaces where liquid fires might occur, as they do not leave any residue or cause electrical damage. Foam extinguishers create a layer of foam on top of the burning liquid, effectively sealing off the fire from oxygen and preventing reignition.

Other types of fire extinguishers, while useful for different classes of fires, are not suitable for Class B fires. Water extinguishers can cause the fire to spread and may lead to steam explosions when used on flammable liquids.
